About

My name is Sarah Connolly, and I’ve lived in Bristol since 2000, mostly south of the River, which has been a huge part of my day-to-day life.

Avon Stories will be an ongoing project, exploring the tidal River Avon in Bristol, through podcasts, films, sounds, photography, walking and more, including the occasional blog.  I’m aiming to feature the physical River, how it’s appeared in and shaped Bristol’s history, urban and rural places along it, and various stories about it, from as many angles as I can, and in my podcast, will be interviewing people whose work or life has a direct or tenuous link to the Avon.

For over five years I’ve been podcasting about professional women’s cycling on my other website, and I’ve started Avon Stories as a way to bring together and explore various interests and experiences – from my original history degree, to my later photography degree, my love of walking, and walking and Place in art, my interests in the city, and of course, my obsession with the River.

I’m mapping my posts onto a map, as I go:

You can follow my social media to see my day-to-day views of the rivers, and keep up to date with what I’m doing:
