Walking is a huge, fundamental part of my everyday life. I don’t drive, so it’s my predominant mode of transport; I walk for health, both physical and mental; I walk for leisure, to explore new places and just enjoy being outside; and it’s a key part of my artistic practice.
It has taken me a long time to even be able to say I have an artistic practice, but one of the things that helped me understand how what I do is art, was reading around the subject, especially books by Rebecca Solnit, Lucy Lippard and Liz Wells. Walking-as-art fascinates me, and I want to explore this more, too.
The posts under the Walk category on my site are about walks I’ve been on in and around the Bristol area, with maps I’ve made. They include photos, films, and podcasts that I’ve recorded on walks.
If you’re in or around Bristol and would like to walk with me, leave me a comment below, or on my twitter, or email me at avonstories [at] gmail [dot] com.
